Instruments of Significance, Connection and Love, Growth and CONTRIBUTION?
Posted by Doug on January 30, 2008
Contribution:. Is it the economy or is it broken boarders and terror attacks? Can bells which ring to open the stock exchange still be instruments as in times past served that call others to come help put out a fire and/or to ward off danger from enemy attack? Do they still serve as instruments of contribution to both past, present and future? They brought attention to notices of importance and to bring notice in helping to contribute to the needs of others. They serve as a reminder to turn inward and contemplate our sense of higher purpose, what are we on this earth to accomplish for our own good and the good of others. They still ring to contemplate the loss of loved ones and what tools and ideas they have given us to build upon and help future generations in our movement toward tolerance and peace to all regardless of gender, race color or creed. They serve to “Ring Out The Old, Ring In The New”, ringing as a call to gather together, to serve, to protest and to object to injustice… ie speaking out against slavery, racism, women’s rights – The Bell of Justice – a replica of the Liberty Bell today on display in the rotunda of the Washington Memorial National Carillon.
GROWTH: INSTRUMENTS OF CIVIC PRIDE?

Growth: Bells, especially as carillons, are instruments of civic pride showing the growth, prosperity and movement of a community and organization. Can these instruments mark and be a reminder of our movement toward freedom and peace as a community, a nation and a world? Do Carillons in the Netherlands, the United States and other parts of the world become just instruments of ego and misplaced importance or are they symbols of community commitment and/or devotion to a higher power? Even though individual bells and these carillon instruments are often monuments to peace and freedom how many individuals actually get to visit them and is it just a fleeting impact that they have on committing daily life to our basic inner human needs and desires?

Do you think this gathering will really ring in a difference in action for the bottom billion, those have not’s of our world? Large group of business people (men & women)in a special outdoor setting rang wonderful cow bells to start the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland. World leaders have issued a joint statement at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos vowing to make 2008 a turning point in the fight against poverty. The world is facing a “development emergency”, they said, and “we pledge to work together to help the world get back on track to meet the MDGs.” Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft Corporation, called for a “creative capitalism” that uses market forces to address poor-country needs that are being ignored. “We have to find a way to make the aspects of capitalism that serve wealthier people serve poorer people as well,” said Gates.”We are here to say one thing loud and clear: Not on our watch!,” said UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon. “I speak to those who are most vulnerable to climate change and those who suffer the most grinding poverty. Let 2008 be the year of the bottom billion,” he said.

Is our World in need of Unity, Connection and Love? Do bells serve as one of our primary sounds and sources that relates to this connection of certainty and love? Do they sound and toll at weddings and funerals? Do they toll to mark tragedies and special days of significance? Do they often mark special times of the day, special days and holidays? Are bells parts of monuments to human tragedies and symbols of Freedom and Peace… Liberty Bell, World Peace Bell, Hiroshima Peace Memorial
I HAVE A DREAM ….. BUT WILL PEACE PREVAIL, CAN WE EVER ACHIEVE UNITY?

If America, if the World, is to become a safe and equal place for all what must happen? Are we moving in the right direction as a nation, as a world community if this must become true. So is it true that we must let freedom ring not only from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire and from the mighty mountains of New York, from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania , from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado and the curvaceous slopes of California! But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia! Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring. And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics
