RING BELLS! OR “STAND UP FOR WORLD PEACE” ARE ALL MESSAGES NECESSARY?

Posted by Doug on June 24, 2008

I certainly believe every creative thing we can do that makes people more aware that “World Peace” is an important step, maybe the most important step in the evolution of humanity, is a wonderful thing!  According to the Guinness Book of World Records there is no Peace Sign category.  The people & students of Ithaca want to be the first entry if Guinness decides to add one and  marshaled almost 6000 people (5,814) to form this massive “Peace” sign. Our hearts go out to Trevor Dougherty an Ithaca High sophomore,  who organized this event. If you have a moment view his creative YouTube video “STAND UP FOR WORLD PEACE.”   You will be glad you did.

PEACE: “INNER PEACE” AN ETERNAL QUEST

INNER PEACE

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT DOING OR BEING?

“As many believe what will last forever? As many believe what makes up our true selves? As many believe what truly will bring us Peace ?

I think the following answers most of the above.

We are so obsessed with doing that we have no time and no imagination left for being.

As a result, men are valued not for what they are but for what they do
or what they have–for their usefulness. When man is reduced to his
function he is placed in a servile, alienated condition. He exists for
someone else or even worse for some thing else. Hence he cannot enjoy
life.”

Is the human race at a historic watershed with two interesting scenarios; World Peace, Unity and Fraternity or Extermination? It certainly seems to be a possibility. Which will it be? Are we willing to assess not only our temporal humanness but our eternal Beingness and what this entails? Several books have been written these the past 100 years or so on this subject but a recent insightful book, published 2006, by Eckhart Tolle, “A New Earth”, seems to have several interesting answers on what it means to be a joyful, aware, loving and purposeful human being who lives in a state of consciousness verses an unconscious state of beingness. As we who have lived on this planet for 50 years or more know, life is short, gone in the twinkling of an eye. So what do we make of the years that our left and do we consider eternity as our destiny? I for one think we have no choice and know that this ongoing act of creation is far beyond the comprehension of humankind but at the same time I believe it is all one piece, one unity, one totality of which we are a small but significant part. In the coming days I want to share with you some of Mr. Tolle’s observations and hope you do read about his insights in “A New Earth” for if we do we too can be part of the solution and not part of the problem, bringing about World Peace, something which down deep is the essence of our beingness, something very active, alive and energizing!
